I recently released my debut book, The Keeper of the Lighthouse, A Migrant’s Story. It is my grandfather’s biography, who grew up in British India. At 16 years of age, he witnessed the partition of India. As his village unexpectedly became a part of India, his family’s life was threatened by communal riots. He narrowly escaped a massacre and migrated to Pakistan. He spent the rest of his life trying to fulfil his dream of a new nation. He participated in two wars and spent most of his life influencing public policy and education.

I wrote his story because when we study history, we view it as a series of events that happened to collective individuals. All these recordings are high-level abstracts. We rarely focus on how those events influenced the individual's stories or how those individuals' stories may have influenced those events. This biography is an attempt to document the life of one of those individuals. It spans almost a century of events in British India and Pakistan.
